Teachers play a vital role in shaping the future of a nation, as they guide students through knowledge, values, and experiences. India has a rich history of influential educators, such as Aryabhata, Panini, Chanakya, and Thiruvalluvar, whose contributions reached beyond India. After independence, teacher education in India faced multiple challenges, leading to inconsistent quality of teacher preparation. To address this, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) introduced the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. ITEP is a four-year integrated program combining a bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.Sc., or B.Com) with B.Ed., preparing students to become professional teachers. This article reviews the purpose, benefits, challenges, and strategies of ITEP, with an emphasis on recent research and practical findings
