Grammatical Errors in EFL Students’ Essays: Insights for English Language Education

This study aims to analyze the types of grammatical errors and their causes and provide examples of the errors present in the essays of Japanese students in a senior high school in Kagawa, Japan. It also discusses the pedagogical implications of these grammatical errors for English language education. A total of 25 essays were collected and analyzed through procedural analysis. The errors found were classified, and explanations were provided. The results showed that the students' essays contained grammatical errors in verbs, nouns, adjectives, prepositions, pronouns, adverbs, conjunctions, and spelling. Most errors are related to verb usage. Based on the findings, it is recommended that an intensive English grammar review be conducted, and teachers are encouraged to explore strategies for teaching and correcting students' grammatical errors to address the problem
