Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the communication model applied by teachers in guiding visually impaired students to achieve achievements at SLB A Karya Murni. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, employing in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. The research results indicate that interpersonal communication is built through five indicators, namely openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude, and equality. In addition to verbal communication, teachers also use nonverbal communication, including kinesthetic messages (facial, gestural, postural), proxemics, artifacts, and paralinguistics. The communication barriers found include students' visual limitations, students' closed nature, and lack of initiative in responding to messages. The findings indicate that the communication model used is the interactional model, which involves a continuous two-way message exchange process between teachers and student. This research formulates a new model called the Adaptive Emotional Interaction Communication Model (KIEA), which is a communication model designed based on the unique needs of visually impaired students, emphasizing elements of adaptive two-way interaction both verbally and nonverbally. This model is formed from five main components: adaptive openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude, and humanistic equality
